2011 CXC Triple Recap

The 2011 CXC Triple concluded with the 2011 Birkebeiner Trail Run. Coming into the final event of the CXC Triple there were some tight battles for the overall and age group titles, particularly in the men’s full-distance category.  After 4+ hours of racing during the American Birkebeiner ski race and the Telemark Forest mountain bike race, Sam Oftedahl and Peter Coenen were separated by less than 1 minute for the overall lead, while 3 other athletes were locked in an equally tough battle for third place.  Amie Mahlab held a convincing lead over Melissa Behr heading into the half-marathon and wasn’t looking to lose that lead.

Peter Coenen showed that for this year, he is one of the best all-around endurance sports athletes by finishing 2nd overall in the half-marathon to assure himself of the overall title in the CXC Triple. In a tight battle for 2nd place, Oyvind Solvang moved ahead of Tom Meyer with a strong run besting Meyer by a mere 29 seconds after nearly 6 hours of combined racing!

Amie Mahlab had a solid run finishing 4th in the women’s division in the half-marathon securing the overall CXC Triple win over Melissa Behr.

In the intermediate-distance CXC Triple, Justin Rumley and Kristen Friedrichs showed great consistency in the shorter distances and took the overall titles.

Congratulations to everyone that competed in the inaugural CXC Triple!  Details for the 2012 CXC Triple will be available soon. Start making plans with your friends and family to compete in 2012.

The concept of CXC Triple is simple and was patterned after the hugely successful Norwegian Birkebeiner Triple. Participants’ total accumulated time from the American Birkebeiner Ski Race, Telemark Forest Mountain Bike Race, and Birkie Trail Run events will generate his or her finishing time for the CXC Triple.
