About Championships: The TD Bank J2 National Championships has a long history of being one of the most exciting winter sporting events for youths anywhere. What began modestly in 1992 has grown into one of the highlights of the season for junior athletes.  The four New England states and New York each qualify their fastest twenty 14-15 year old boys and girls. Four races ensue over 2 1/2 days. Seeded wave starts ensure match racing at its finest.  This event will typically see invited entries from Intermountain Division (Idaho and Utah) and Canada who are scored head-to-head with New England athletes, adding to the weekend of excitement for all participants.

About Trip: Central Cross-Country Ski Association (CXC) will provide an opportunity for talented, young juniors who qualify from the Central Region (Midwest and Great Lakes Divisions) to compete amongst their peers at the TD Bank J2 National Championships in Rumford, Maine on March 9-11, 2012.

Team Size: The team will be comprised of four J3/J2 boys and four J3/J2 girls, with the possibility of up to one additional athlete in each gender added on coaches’ discretion.

Team Selection Criteria: The team will be selected using the Junior National J2 and J3 qualifying list from Ironwood, Mich. and Minneapolis, Minn.  A skier’s three best races out of four will count towards qualification.  J3 athletes need to compete in J2 events in order to score points. All athletes must have CXC memberships prior to the first event to score points. Up to one additional boy and/or girl may be named to the team on coaches’ discretion.

The team will be named on Feb. 1, 2011.

Accommodations:  Housing will be arranged by CXC through the generous donation by several host families in the Rumford area.  Boys and girls will have separate accommodations and at least one coach will be staying together with the athletes.

Travel: The team will fly from Minneapolis, MN (MSP) to Portland, ME (PWM) on Wednesday March 7th, and will travel in rental vans to Rumford.  They will return Monday, March 12th to Minneapolis, Minn.

Uniform: All selected athletes will receive a CXC race suit and a jacket to represent the Central Region as a team. Coaches will receive jackets.

Trip Cost: Around $750

Coaches:
Yuriy Gusev – CXC
Terry Tensey – Hayward High School Team
