Programs / Kids and Youth / Nordic Rocks for Parks and Clubs Program

The Nordic Rocks for Parks and Clubs program was developed to introduce a new generation of children and families to the excitement found in the sport of cross country skiing.

Thanks to the input from current Nordic Rocks programs, Central Cross Country Skiing (CXC) has developed two sizes of introductory cross country skis, with snowshoe style bindings, along with adjustable poles, to give participants of all ages and abilities an easy way to try cross country skiing in their communities. In many communities, park activity coordinators and club leaders organize events and lessons for those interested in getting started in the sport.

Participants are able to ski on any outdoor surface covered with a minimum of two inches of snow. CXC will assist Nordic Rocks parks and clubs with the same skiing curriculum and resources, teaching support, and cross country skiing equipment that is being used in the Nordic Rocks for Schools program. In addition, the Nordic Rocks adjustable poles are perfect for Nordic Walking adventures and activities.

The curriculum for both skiing and Nordic walking is easy to follow and offers parks, clubs, and families learning ideas with both outdoor and indoor activities. The equipment is easy to use, store, and maintain, and includes: cross county skis and poles, with easy to use step-in bindings. CXC will help parks and clubs to connect with local ski shops and skiing enthusiasts to further enhance the Nordic Rocks experience in their community.

CXC Nordic Rocks Receives National Honor

In 2018 CXC's Nordic Rocks program received U.S. Ski & Snowboard's prestigious Russell Wilder Award which is presented annually to recognize the most outstanding effort in America in focusing the interest of youth on skiing.

The many visitors, new to cross country skiing, who come to Lake Bemidji State Park, are thrilled to try cross country skis provided by the Nordic Rocks for Parks and Clubs program. It is easy, they slip on the skis right over their snow boots, and off they go down the trail.
