Central Cross Country Skiing would like to congratulate the following athletes on qualifying for the Central Regional Elite Group for 2004-2005. The CREG is a very exclusive club and the top of the Central development structure. They all showed dedication and outstanding work ethics to get there. These athletes are the top 17 junior and senior CXC skiers living and training in Central. They all met the published criteria (see 03-04 Comp Guide) and are all among the best skiers in the country.

Qualified senior athletes include (name-current club-top results):

Bryan Cook-NMU-8th, 14th NCAA Championships

Chris Cook-USST-5th National Championships, 5th National Ranking List

Rachel Daw-NMU-3rd National Championships, U23 World Championships

Chad Giese-FINN SISU-3rd National Championships, 11th National Ranking List

Garrott Kuzzy-Middlebury-4th NCAA Championships

Matt Weier-2-6th National Championships

Juniors from this past season include (name-current club-top results):

Bob Baldwin-NMU-3rd JOs

Bill Bowler-RSSS-5th JOs

Ben Cline-NMU-3rd JOs

Tanya Cook-UWGB-9th, 7th JOs

Julia Coulter-Traverse NSC-7th, 9th JOs

Tim Damrow-SAUKKO/CU-2nd JOs, World Junior Championships

Cassidy Edwards-Traverse NSC-2nd JOs

Sonne Nordgren-MN Biathlon-4th JOs, World Junior Championships

Lindsay Williams-MSC/NMU-4th National Championships, 7th National Ranking List, WJ Championships

Jenny Wygant-MN Valley/NMU-1st JOs

These athletes had awesome results throughout the season. Among Senior Nationals/World Junior Tryouts, World Juniors, U-23 World Championships, national and international biathlon events, the J1 Scandinavian Trip, Midwest and Great Lakes Junior Olympic Qualifiers, Central, Eastern and Western collegiate qualifiers, NCAAs, Junior Olympics, SuperTour events, Spring Series and many marathons they racked up many gold medals and podium finishes and had an especially memorable season. Each individual and their clubs should be very proud of their accomplishments!

Some have stepped up from one of the three State Development Groups. The CREG is the second qualifying step on the CXC Skiing development ladder leading to the National Development Group, and higher toward the US Ski Team. Chris Cook and Lindsey Weier are currently on the National Development Group. Others have already achieved the top of the CXC ladder and beyond. For those athletes there are the goals of international success. It’s a long road, but the rewards are great.
