ORGANIZATION HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
The history of Central Cross Country Skiing begins with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association or USSA. USSA has been organizing snow sports nationally for decades and is the sanctioning body for all Olympic snow sports. Their current headquarters are in Park City, Utah. Their development programs begin as children learn to walk and progresses through to Olympic Champions. In the mid 1990’s USSA reorganized and discontinued funding four regional support offices distributed around the United States due to lack of funds. However, the need for cohesive leadership in these regions did not disappear. Gradually, at various levels, these regions developed their own organizations to support skier education and development. Central Cross Country Skiing evolved through the late 1990’s and was officially incorporated in October of 2000. CXC Skiing is now an independent 10 state regional planning organization for the support of athletic and educational programs, for the creation of funding, and to act as the primary coordinator and communicator of cross country ski issues for athletes of all ages. Most of the officers and primary volunteers have been lifetime cross country ski fitness counselors and leaders.
