CXC Adaptive Program

CXC ADAPTIVE PROGRAM
The CXC Adaptive Program is committed to providing year round, cross country skiing sports specific recreational, training, and competitive athletic programs for disabled individuals. The program assists military and community agencies, ski areas and ski clubs to identify, promote, and support diverse athletic opportunities throughout the USSA Central Region.

The primary CXC initiative is the introduction of “Opportunity Center and Programs” (click here for a complete list) throughout the Midwestern snow belt. The goal is to establish a model that can be adopted by ski areas and clubs around the region and beyond. Selected ski areas and clubs in the Midwest can qualify as Opportunity Centers to offer loaner equipment and provide clinics, instructions and events.

PROGRAM HISTORY
CXC established a disabled ski program in 2005 by bringing the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team to the Madison, WI SuperTour event, at which point CXC purchased one sit ski. Since that time, the CXC Adaptive Program has committed to designing and building sit skis and has distributed them nationwide to the military, community agencies, medical facilities, ski areas and ski clubs.

ADAPTIVE CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Adaptive cross-country skiing (Adaptive XC) is an independence fostering winter sport in which participants propel themselves across snow-covered terrain using skis and poles. Cross-country skiing is open to individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments. Depending on functional disability, any individual may use a sit-ski, a chair equipped with a pair of skis, or standard equipment.
