CXC Masters Program Expansion
THE ROLE OF THE CXC MASTERS TEAM

The CXC Masters Team is a vehicle for you to enjoy elite level training and race service while supporting the development of the sport we love.

The CXC Masters Team is the crucial link between expanding youth participation at the foundation, and training medal winners at the top. Master Skiers are already the coaches, instructors and promoters of our sport. It is now essential that Master Skiers commit to financially supporting CXC as we continue to develop our sport.

If You Give, You Get ! The Gold, Silver and Bronze packages offer tiered benefits to Master Skiers who contribute and join the Team, starting with valuable support at the Birkie and with CXC Masters Team uniforms. See Masters Team Brochure below for full details.

“I recently discovered CXC as I was pondering how to take my 14 years of recreational skiing to the next level. I was drawn to CXC by the dominance of their athletes' performance at the 2009 Birkie and the amount of expertise embodied in their coaching staff presented in a straight forward, results-focused manner. I am a new member, but I am blown away by the amount of value CXC is providing through their CXC Masters Team memberships or a subscription to the CXC Online Academy (buy it separately if you want, but it is included with the Masters Team Membership). I am excited about the future of skiing for me (thanks to my CXC membership) and for all of the skiers and ski organizations that are fortunate to have an interaction with the CXC Team.” - Aaron H., CXC Master Skier

PROGRAM FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
Initial baseline aerobic performance test (Silver and Gold Levels):
Testing is done either through a VO2 or a lactate profile test. One of these tests will provide you with personal information on your training intensity zones which is invaluable in distance and interval training. The test can be done by running, biking, or roller skiing. We test our CXC Elite Team athletes at least 6 times a year to monitor their training and to make sure that their bodies respond effectively to the training loads and if not, we make the appropriate adjustments. We also have developed a strength test and have an extended database on where you should be with your strength conditioning in order to have a good training balance for best your performance in cross country skiing.

Progress Performance Test (Gold Level):
The same testing as a baseline performance test but looking at your progress and identifying areas which need more work and focus.

CXC Academy Coaching (all levels):
CXC provides complementary access to our wealth of knowledge CXC has developed over the last four years by working with juniors, masters, and elite athletes. The Academy offers day-by-day training plans, technique lessons, strength workouts, tons of videos, and much more. We have over 300 members using it very successfully, from raw beginners to Birkie skiers and from high school teams to top juniors in the country.

Individual technique and training sessions (Silver and Gold Levels):
This is one-on-one individual technique sessions with comprehensive video analyses which you can take home for your record to review. The best way to improve in technique!

Below is a sample of video analyses a skier will receive after each session via e-mail to review technique. The video can be viewed at normal speed or frame by frame. There is also an option to printout key positions with comments for personal reference.

Custom designed training plan with monthly review (Gold Level):
A training plan designed specifically for you, monitored and updated on a monthly basis by using the Polar Pro Trainer Software.

Group technique sessions (all levels):
A great coach per athlete’s ratio. The maximum group size is 12 members. This is a great way to work on technique in a social setting and improve your technique by skiing with skiers of similar abilities.

US Ski Team Technique Session and Dinner (Silver and Gold Level):
This will be at the July Regional Elite Camp (date will be confirmed next week). One of the US Ski Team coaches will conduct a technique session with the Master Team members and then everyone will get together for a lakefront cookout.

VIP Birkie Dinner (all levels):
This is a great way to spend the night after the Birkie at Telemark Lodge. Share your Birkie stories with Elite athletes and other members of the Masters Team.

CXC Team Apparel (all levels but a different type based on the level):
This is the same training and racing apparel as the CXC Elite Team.

Waxing services at the Birkie (all levels):
Your skis will be waxed the exact same way as all CXC Elite Team athletes. Our men athletes placed 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th in the Birkie Skate and 1st in the Classic. We use wax technicians who test glide and kick waxes on the trail and the CXC coaches apply the race wax based on the latest information. Silver and Gold level skis are waxed the morning of the Birkie and Bronze level skis are waxed the night before the Birkie.

Discount on custom selected race equipment (all levels):
We will be selecting your skis the same way we select skis for our CXC Elite Team. We pick from our race stock skis or from a CXC Race Service Center. We also will recommend what CXC signature grinds you should get to complement your skis. If you really want to see how much difference it makes to have a well organized training plan, a refined technique, the best fitted skis, and the best wax service, then watch the Birkie Race DVD and see how Matt Liebsch (2009 Birkie Winner and CXC Elite Team member) effortlessly skis away from the field.

"Joining CXC has been a dream comes true for me. I started xc skiing in 1977 and did my first Birkie in 1978. After a long sabbatical from skiing, I learned how to skate ski 4-5 years ago. I joined the CXC Masters Team late season 2008 and got some early coaching from Oyvind and Yuriy which made major improvements to both my technique and comfort level skating. Then in Thanksgiving I had the opportunity to go to the Yellowstone Ski Festival with CXC. The coaching by Yuriy, Bryan Fish and several of the CXC Elite Team members significantly improved my skiing. Some subtle changes had major impact. The CXC video analysis has been especially helpful along with the CXC Academy. Thus I highly recommend the CXC Masters Team to anyone who loves the sport as much as I and hopes to improve both their technique and results."

"We gained a lot of new knowledge in the field of cross country ski technique in last two years with our CXC Ski Team and by working closely with the US Ski Team coaches. We also understand that personal attention and feedback are critical components in technique development. This camp is the best opportunity for athletes at every level to improve their technique. Small groups separated by ability level will be a very effective tool and method to improve technical skills.”
